I loved this book years ago and decided to read it again to see if I still felt the same way. I do!When 4 year old Lady Judith met 5 year old Francis Catherine at a festival held on the border between Scotland and England, they had no idea that their friendship wasn't supposed to happen. For years afterward they would meet each summer at the games and it was if they had never been separated. After they got older, Francis Catherine told Judith of her fear that she would someday die in childbirth like her mother and grandmother. She had Judith promise that she would be there when she gave birth. Judith immediately began learning all that she could of childbirth so that she could be helpful when the time came. Years later, she makes the trip to the Scottish Highlands to be with her friend as she waits to give birth. Of course, being English, she was not initially welcomed into the community where Francis Catherine lived.Is this story well represented by historical facts? No, not at all. Does it bother me? Nope. This isn't a time period that I prefer and I know little about it. I do realize that it is 'cleaned up' a bit and that is okay with me. Why do I like it? I loved the heroine's "Hey, you're not going to stop me" attitude. I really like a dark, brooding hero with a soft heart who wants what is best for his people. And I really, really loved the intense friendship between the two girls. And, as always, I love Garwood's gift for humor and witty dialogue. I'm so glad that I reread this book and will likely read it again in a few years.Sexual situations may offend some readers An audio review.I loved The Secret and after listening to it for the first time and re-reading it for the 20 billionth time, I think I love it more.Judith is a strong and feisty English woman whose best friend is a Scot. When she's asked to attend her friends birthing of her first child, she does not hesitate to pack her bags.Ian is Laird and as a favour to his brother offers to collect the English woman. Ian thinks his brother is daft giving in to his woman and scoffed at his devotion and need to make her happy.When the two meet there is an instant attraction, but a Scottish Laird and an English lass is not a good alliance.Judith has a secret that could ruin everything. Ian knows that by taking an English bride he's asking for trouble...but can't seem to stop himself. Only the two of them can decide if their love is worth the sacrifice.I laughed so hard at this one and got some very strange looks on the train. I'm pretty sure I had a goofy grin on my face for most this one.The story line is captivating, the characters lovable and the love story enough to make me sigh. I will definitely be listening to more in the future.

"The Other Boleyn Girl" is narrated by Mary Boleyn, the sister of the famous Anne. The two girls, one sweet and blonde and the other dark and ruthless, are used as pawns by their family to gain favor with the king-and thus gain prestige and wealth for the Boleyns. Mary, who is married, is forced to leave her husband when her family pushes her into King Henry's bed. She becomes the king's mistress, but truly loves him. Later in the story Anne ruthlessly destroys the life of the gracious, pious Queen Catherine in order to gain the throne-and uses witchcraft, poison, and incest to further her aims. Ms Gregory uses actual dates and happenings to build her story, and fills them in with speculation and fictitious events. This is not a book for you if you are a stickler for facts-but it is a fast-paced, gripping novel that m akes the reader want to keep going to see what's next. I especially liked the book's glimpse into the Tudor court. Most people today have no idea of what it means to have your entire life revolve around the whim of someone who could either make you very fortunate-or put you to death. Courtiers were not just beautiful people who lounged around all day. They had to accompany the ruler EVERYWHERE, even if that meant dinners that went on past midnight, and then getting up for Mass or hunting at dawn. They had to gauge the king's every mood and adjust accordingly. A great job? I will leave that up to the reader. The book is quite good. My only negative is that the ending was very abrupt, almost as if it didn't matter. Since the rest of the book was fairly detailed, i thought the end was hurried and not in keeping with the rest of the book. Made me wonder if the author was late for her deadline for submission of the manuscript. Otherwise, I enjoyed the book.

She is calm and logical, with bad fashion sense. I liked her a lot, she was quirky in just the right amount, loyal and funny. Sebastion also likes to investigate, but his interests are society crimes. He is lonely and bored with life, has a terrible relationship with his remaining family and feels guilty for the death of his parents. I liked him a lot too, he was the right amount of brooding and distant. Prudance and Sebastion get involved while solving a mystery, and of course their attraction grows until they can't contain it and they end up married. I could read about Prudance and Sebastion running around London and the country side solving crimes for days, they were fun and engaging. Light and entertaining, with some family drama thrown in. I loved it. One of my favorites by Amanda Quick. The fly on the wall aspect keeps the reader aware of the thoughts of the hero without betraying the final answers to the questions.The first few pages begin with a confrontation instigated by the heroine in the home of the hero. They further confirm the basics for the relationship between the two and the obvious pitfalls and sources of misunderstands so common to all male/female relations. The roles of Sherlock Holmes and Watson are interchangeable depending on which of the partners is engaged in investigating a case - ghosts or murder. The dialogue is credible, the personalities portrayed in such a way that we all "know" someone that could have been the model for each of the personalities involved and while the conclusion of the relationship between hero and heroine is predictable, the conclusions of their investigations is another "ah-ha!" moment.Because both characters intentionally are actively involved in investigations, and are rather fun in temperment, I would like to read more works that expand on the character of Whistlecroft and feature this couple involved in finding ghosts and solving mysteries; perhaps works titled, Dangerously, More Dangerous than the Last & and The Most Dangerous To Date LOL.

She isn't beautiful, graceful, or endowed with all the little womanly ways that men looked for in the late 1800s. Instead she is stubborn, opinionated, and a bit of a tomboy. She is also not in a hurry to get married, even though at 20 years old she is looking spinsterhood in the eye. When the new doctor comes to town, Grace causes an accident that makes them dislike each other immensely. It takes a kidnapping by a gang of train robbers (love those outlaws!) to make them see each other in a new light. I loved this book and already know that I will be re-reading it some time in the future.For those interested: There are no sexual situations or any language problems to offend any readers. In trying to rescue a kitten Grace falls from a tree and knocks Dr.Gaitlin O'Mally from his horse. In the fall Grace breaks her leg. When she goes into the office for a follow-up visit both Grace and Gaitlin are kidnapped by a band of outlaws. These outlaws have a code of honor that they will not harm a married lady and they need the Dr's help for one of their men. The kidnappers take Grace and Gaitlin to a cabin many miles from where they live and leave them there. Due to the weather they are stranded and must learn to get along. They finally are able to leave and make the trek back to their homes. Its a fun read. Due to the strict morals of the day some of the events they endure while kidnapped do not rest easy with Grace. Their situations add to the fun of the story.

While reading this book I kind of felt like I was binge watching a TV show where I was already too emotionally involved in the characters. Every night I would say "Okay, just one more chapter" and then after that chapter it would be one more. All of the characters are wonderfully developed and it's very easy to really like more than just the two main characters. I had a hard time putting this book down because I just had to know how it ended and the ending of the book had me in tears. I always find it hard to review a book without spoilers but I want to write something that people can read without revealing too much about the book itself. I look forward to reading more from this author.I received this book as a free kindle giveaway on goodreads. I loved this book and even cried during the end which I rarely do but was so involved with the characters and living through their emotions that I got drawn into all the drama...I haven't read any of this author's books but am going to check out any others to read. I couldn't put this book down until I finished and found out what really happened to everyone. Really enjoyed this book and the way the characters interacted with each other. Perfect Drama and Suspense and Mystery right up to the end.

Man, oh man, how I wanted to give this more. Heck, how I wanted to like this more. I love John. I love Tohr. I love Wrath and all the other guys. But Tohr and Autumn, I just couldn't get into it. I didn't like him loosing Wellsie but I could see how it would bring a new dynamic and I liked how it developed John's story. I liked the angel and Tohr on his own wasn't so bad but the relationship....I just couldn't get into it. They were very muted and lost a bit in the story of everything else going on and it just didn't fit. Also, and I could be wrong here, but I don't think time wise it's been all that long since Wellsie died. I would think, given how devoted in the mating and in love the guys get to their shellans and the fact that they live a good 1000 years or so, he'd need a good 50 or so years before looking at another mate. I mean, he was with Wellsie for what, 150 years??? (something like that) I actually was really hoping that at the end, he would do the Fade ceremony and then stay single. I think Tohr on his own would have been great, and Autumn coming to really accepting herself and loving herself and being on her own would have been great too. Together, not so much for me.I did like Wrath getting shot, lol. Not that I don't like Wrath, but I thought it was a nice twist.I did not like Qhuinn going out alone. No way do I see John not going out with him and I'm not sure Qhuinn would do it anyway(as in leave John). I think this was a problem with character and the fight itself. If someone was going to make that move it would have been V with the other two aiding inside. V would have been a surer bet but then Xcor would be dead and there goes your enemy too soon. I think it was just bad fighting choreograph at play. I'm not saying Qhuinn shouldn't be a hero and save the kings' life and all, its just the way it happened that was very off putting. Okay, and maybe I do find it a little early for Qhuinn to be toting a hero mantle. Also, changing the laws to get Qhuinn into the brotherhood when John, who has the blood in his veins like Butch but hasn't been inducted, is just screwy, and Qhuinn is one of my favorite characters.I didn't like John's character this book. Maybe that's just me. He's also one of my favs but this book, I found the whole fighting between him and Xhex way out there. John knew who he was mating. I don't see him reacting this way. I also found her reaction a bit over the top as well and really, they already more or less had this in John's book. This felt like a way to create some added tension and maybe try to continue the thread of John's story since it's been going on since book 2 (or 1 if you want to get technical) and with it being Tohr's.....I don't know. It was just messy and unbelievable to the characters I have been reading over the years.I can't really recommend this one. I can see that Ward is trying to do some serious weaving of plots and things but I'm just not...it's not there for me. The characters and s tories are off, the plot lines are continuing to fall apart, as is the once awesome story telling. JR Ward is a great writer. That can't be denied. Her plots are absolutely inventive and for the most part I really enjoy her books. Her dialogue in particular is great. she has a real way with language that makes the books come across as just the right combination of otherworldly and man-cave.Lots of things to like about this one, and my rating, even though I did have a few things that irked me is based on the fact that JR Ward is just SUCH a damn good storyteller. You just want to keep reading, even if there are a few places or a few aspects you might wish were different about this character or that. The band of bastards stuff was good. I enjoyed the stuff with Layla, and like the conflict that is developing as the Chosen are developed as a group that is more than just cookie cutter females in white robes who say yes, master and offer their wrists. The tortured triangle between Blay, Qhuinn and Saxton was actually quite good and for the first time I don't hate these characters. They really nauseated me in earlier books when they were younger and stupid.The cons of this book: (spoilers) JM and Xhex... didn't think there was much new there, Xhex is too headstrong and JM is freakishly overprotective, and it's so soon after their book ended. Plus, we have seen SO much JM in all the books since book 2 that I honestly am okay with never seeing him again outside of random mentions. And that really brings me to my next (and biggest complaint... too much time is spent on the new characters. I realize why that is the case, narratively, but the original Brothers are the reason I feel invested and the reason I want to keep reading. With regards to the Tohr/No'one relationship (Autumn just never grabs me, so I think No'one is a much more appropriate name for her), there isn't any spark between them. Nothing personal.

Well, I didn't get much legal in the book, but it is fair to say the love affair between DeAngelo Di Meglio and Peyton Mahoney was well worth the read.When Peyton's girlfriends send her on a well deserved vacation, a break from her law firm, she had no idea she was being set up. There was a mysterious man who had planned to be at the exact resort Peyton was visiting. What Peyton also didn't know is that this man she would meet turned out to be her best friend's brother, Angelo, who had a real personal stake in the resort they both were staying at.Angelo set out on a mission to claim his 'woman' and Peyton had no plans on being claimed by anyone, least of all, not the great looking Italian Hellion, Angelo.I found Peyton's character a bit immature for an almost thirty-something woman, but she had some major issues to work through. If it was told to the reader once, it was mentioned a hundred times how good looking Angelo is. A bit of an overkill seeing as how I got that in the first few chapters that he was 'good looking as sin'! A term I absolutely loathe, but Ms. Jackson did the story justice. It turned out as I had expected it would, but I would have prefered more legal battle between the two lovers, but it wasn't that type of story. Regardless, it was well written with a bit of overkill on the descriptions of Angelo, but outside of that, I felt the story was pretty good.
